On May May 18, 2019, The Cloud Power in association with Innovation Lab and Butterfly ventures organized a day Hackathon at ChiyaPaan, Baluwatar, Kathmandu.

The core idea of this event was to bring TechGirls with slogan of “Girls in Technology”.

It was a day Hackathon and participants had to code, build and solve the real time problems using Azure and other Services.”

Build Kathmandu was kicked at 11:00 AM sharp with an session on Importance of Leadership in Women by Bandita Thapa.

Team Building Sessions by Dr. Andy PhilipsOne of the most essential element for better Wok flow in any Organization is Team Building. Mr. Andy from LVDI International led a session on Team Building. The session was interactive, informative and based on examples. Mr Andy talked how a team can perform well together taking individual lead but for common goals. He gave examples how to collect data, do research, marketing, make project design and how to lead a team effectively.

Leadership Session by Bandita Thapa from The Global Summit

Leadership Session by Bandita Thapa from The Global SummitThis session was more brainstorming to each participants to understand inner passion, their present state of mind and their goals. Each participant talked about their interest towards their goal, opportunity and challenges.

Based on group discussion it identified their capacity towards leadership and learned how to communicate regard their related education and other activities.

App Development using Microsoft Azure by Nishan Aryal

This session focused on developing Mobile Apps powered by Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services. The event began with the distribution of Azure passes to all the participants allowing them to leverage 80$ worth of Azure Credits to test the services of Azure.

After a session on building Android App with Cognitive Services AI enabled solutions, each participant were taught how to activate the free Azure Token. Soon then, participants learned how to build a automated app using Logic App. Enthusiastic Participants also learned how to get started with Azure Face API.

Technical topics were covered during the session

  • What is Azure Face API
  • How to generate API Key
  • Embed Azure Face API services into Android
  • Capture images, send to Azure and read JSON result
  • Parse JSON result into meaningful interface.

Outcomes

  • We were able to motivate and engage participants to work in a team, share expertise and work on common Problem to solve
  • Participants were able to address and solve the problems related with “Women’s Voice against Violence
  • Participants were able to leverage into Azure Face API Services and Azure Logic Apps.
